Planning Permission for New Angel Centre

Local councillors at Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council have approved planning permission for the new Angel Centre.

Local councillors have unanimously voted to approve planning permission for a multi-million-pound new Angel Centre, to replace the ageing existing building in Tonbridge.

The exciting new development, designed by architects who specialise in leisure, will transform the Sovereign Way Mid Car Park into a modern, riverside destination for the local community. The inclusive, energy efficient design includes:

✅ Soft play and party rooms

✅ Vibrant café for the public

✅ Immersive spin studio

✅ Expanded gym with enhanced equipment

✅ Three multi-purpose studios for adaptable community use

✅ Step-free access

✅ Inclusive equipment

✅ Solar panels on the roof

✅ Modern audio visual equipment in the studios

The plans have been shaped by feedback from local people during two public engagement exercises, with residents and current members showing strong support for the facilities that will be on offer, as well as for retaining the Angel Centre name. The plans need to clear one final hurdle which is to gain approval from Full Council on 14th October for construction to proceed.

Construction is due to begin in the Autumn with doors opening in 2028.
