A burst water main in Tonbridge has meant the loss of supply to over 7600 homes.
Problems were initially reported on Saturday morning (Aug 1st) and South East Water soon identified the loss of supply to many homes was due to the burst water main, which saw parts of Shipbourne Road flooded. The water company sent a team out to complete repairs and initially expected it to all be done and service restored by late on Saturday. However, digging down through concrete to locate the main has been proving to be quite challenging they then reported that they had experienced overnight equipment failure and the need to work carefully around high-voltage cables nearby. Repairs are underway and the team is working as quickly and safely as possible to resolve this issue.
So on Sunday around 2800 homes still remain without water supply. Bottled water stations are open until 10pm on Sunday at Sovereign Way East Car Park TN9 1QH and Tonbridge Farm Sports Centre Darenth Avenue Tonbridge Kent TN10 3JF
South East Water's new CEO, John Halsall, alongside MP Tom Tugendhat and Matt Boughton, Leader of Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council, have been speaking to customers impacted by the burst water main in Shipbourne Road, Tonbridge, and helping hand out bottled water at the two bottled water stations.
John said: "I'm so sorry to everyone who has been impacted by this burst water main, my teams are working really hard to reduce the impact, support customers and fix this situation as quickly as possible.
"I want to say a big thank you to all customers who turned up at the bottled water stations today for the patience and kindness shown towards the staff."
