Voters in Southborough and High Brooms overwhelmingly passed the local Neighbourhood Development Plan in a referendum held on Thursday, June 18, 2026. Residents voted "YES" by a large majority, formally allowing Tunbridge Wells Borough Council to use the community-drafted plan to guide planning applications across the area.
Voters were asked: "Do you want Tunbridge Wells Borough Council to use the Neighbourhood Plan for Southborough and High Brooms to help it decide planning applications in the neighbourhood area?"
There were 1194 voted YES and only 152 voted NO.
Because the referendum was successful, Tunbridge Wells Borough Council will formally adopt the Neighbourhood Development Plan at the next Full Council meeting, integrating it into official local planning policy.
