Tonbridge & Malling Borough Councillors have voted in favour of forming a Town Council in Tonbridge.
Tonbridge is set get its own town council following a decision by Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council.
Borough councillors approved recommendations from the Community Governance Review, confirming:
- A new Tonbridge Town Council
- 18 elected councillors
- Six wards across the town
- First elections in May 2027
- A new “Oast” ward name for the unparished parts of Hildenborough
The decision follows two rounds of public consultation, with strong support for the creation of a town council.
The next step is for the borough council to make a Reorganisation of Community Governance Order to formally establish the new authority.
