Local Tributes to David Amess, MP

The Southend West MP died on Friday, following an attack

Following the death of Sir David Amess, MP for Southend West, from a stabbing at his weekly surgery, local political parties and figures in West Kent took to Twitter.

David Amees died as he lived - serving others, his community and our country. Please remember his family and all his friends. We have all lost so much.
~ Tom Tugenhardt, MP Tonbridge & Malling

Devastated by the shocking news that David Amess has been killed. He was the warmest, most encouraging and generous-spirited colleague, and an absolutely tireless champion of his constituents in Southend. RIP.
~ Greg Clark, MP Tunbridge Wells

My thoughts are with the family, friends, and colleagues of Sir David Amess at this tragic time. Absolutely shocked by what has happened. A well-respected and decent man. He was just trying to help people.
~ Matthew Scott Police & Crime Commissioner

We are shocked, saddened, and appalled to learn that Sir David Amess has died following a brutal attack which took place at his constituency surgery. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this desperately sad time.
~ Sevenoaks Conservatives

Politicians should be able to work and meet their constituents in safety - this is an essential part of our democracy. Horrified to hear of today’s events in Southend, and thinking of the family and friends of Sir David Amess at this time. Rest in peace.
~ Cllr April Clark, Judd Ward
