Lisa Beaumont, who suffered a stroke aged 44, talks about her experience and how she started a local support group to connect other stroke survivors, share experiences and help them in their recovery.
Lisa Beaumont was a working mum of small young children before she suffered a stroke in 2011. In this interview she shares aspects of her journey and especially how she looked for a local support group but there wasn't one. So, she started a local group of the national stroke support charity Different Strokes.
The group meets regularly in Southborough and holds talks and exercise classes to help members in their rehabilitation. They are gradually adding in more services and Lisa is currently developing a Communication Cafe for those with aphasia.
In addition, through her experience, Lisa is a voice into the NHS at a national level, looking at supporting those who have had a stroke.
Full details for the group, it's activities and their September fundraising event can be found on their website - https://differentstrokes.co.uk/groups/west-kent/ and Lisa can be contacted via email at westkent@differentstrokes.co.uk
