Soft toys help traumatised children
Members of the volunteer group, Sevenoaks Soroptimists, have knitted teddy bears to assist young victims in west Kent.
The soft toys will be given to children who visit police stations having been traumatised as victims of crime or as a result of witnessing an upsetting incident.
The volunteers have accepted a challenge to create 100 teddies, and their work is continuing over the next few weeks.
Thoughtful donation
Detective Inspector Richard Pringle, of the Child Protection Team, said:
‘When a child is asked by our officers to describe something that has happened to them or an incident they have seen, it can be a difficult and sometimes upsetting experience for them.
‘We ensure young people are treated with the utmost care while we progress our investigations and anything that comforts them and puts them at ease is of particular benefit.
‘We are already using these teddies to good effect with young victims and I would like to thank the volunteers for this very thoughtful and helpful donation.’
