This wildflower course is designed for absolute beginners. We start in the classroom with an introduction to flowering plants. You will examine specimens and will be shown the important parts required for plant identification and classification. You will also learn how to use identification books and keys.
We will then visit various habitats within the reserve, collecting and bringing back specimens to the classroom for identification.
The remainder of the day will be spent in the Visitor Centre of the Reserve with selected specimens, using the Wild Flower Key to confirm their identification.
By the end of the session it is expected that you will feel confident to:
- Recognise some common wild flowers by looking at key features
- Use identification keys and books
Led by Joyce Pitt, Botanist.
